How the working hours calculation works

The Working Hours Calculator finds the elapsed time between your start and end times. If you enter a break, the break duration is subtracted from the total elapsed time.

Working hours formula

Total Time = End Time − Start Time
Net Working Time = Total Time − Break Time

Example

If you start work at 9:00 AM and finish at 6:00 PM with a 1-hour break, your total elapsed time is 9 hours and your net working time is 8 hours.

Overnight working hours

If your end time is earlier than your start time, the calculator treats the end time as being on the following day. This makes it useful for night shifts and other overnight work schedules.
